The day before yesterday, I was really upset about our bee situation and realized that as a city dweller, I can't really do too much about it but buy organic food, plant as many flowers as I can on my balcony and PRAY! I visited Toronto Islands to get the dark thoughts out of my head. the little spring 'sun' flowers are what cheered me up and gave me a hopeful feeling. They just caught my eye when I was dwelling and ruminating on the sadness of the natural situation as it comes up against what human life has done.
One hopeful, or at least, slightly empowering video clearly explains what is happening to the bees (and other pollinators, like butterflies, as in the Monarch), 'Why Bees are Disappearing' .
These creatures are our friends and very distant relatives. We all have Earth as our Mother; and we all depend on the role that each species contributes to life here. Maybe if enough of us can take up some simple actions as described in Maria Spivak's talk, maybe if enough spirits are willing, our environment will be respond and bounce back to health. These little things are what will assist us in relating to Earth the way it deserves, the way the lady with the giant apple shows us.
