Last Tuesday, I was caught by surprise when I glanced outside the apartment window. A bedraggled young raccoon was curled up on top of the awning of the building entrance. He unfurled and shook himself, began pacing back and forth, pawing the brick walls and testing possible ways to get down. Then he went back to the corner, groomed himself and promptly curled up again, protecting his head from the rain and cold.
It took a whole day, lots of humans coming to take pictures, banging on the window, and attempting assistance with a ladder which he obviously did not trust, but eventually padded down and went off into the trees. I noticed him gone; I left the apartment, and returned three hours later only to find him there at my window once again. What a strange thing to happen! Why would he come back, and at a time when only I noticed? It made me feel like he actually came to see ME for some reason! What was his message?
Dutifully, I looked up the significance of the raccoon in a couple of animal lore books. I was advised to remain intuitively open to signs around me, to be an explorer rather than an achiever at this time. The raccoon's mask signifies a kind of hidden activity such as healing or personal transformation. That takes energy, even though all the work is more psychological and inwardly oriented.
I'll take that hint since the most memorable event in this little critter's visit was his curious and calm gaze INTO my apartment while I took his portrait. Those wild, but seemingly knowing eyes caught me; the message is to keep up the inner work, to look INSIDE the way this raccoon was doing.
So, thank you, Rocky....I'm off to record last night's dream and look over my past dreams. I always get further insight, even from an old dream! Thank you for your affirmation of this path.
